What To Do When the Devil Attacks
The Accuser Exposed — Real Victory in Spiritual Warfare (1 Peter 5:8)
SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV)
I. THE ENEMY’S WHISPER: HAVE YOU HEARD THIS?
“This is all your fault.”
“You sinned. You failed. God’s not helping you this time.”
If those voices echo in your mind, you’re not just hearing guilt—you’re being prosecuted.
1 Peter 5:8 isn’t poetic fluff—it’s a battle alert.
II. THE REALITY OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE
The Christian life is a battleground, not a playground. You are being hunted.
* “Be sober” — Think clearly. Don't be spiritually intoxicated with distractions.
* “Be vigilant” — Stay awake. Stay aware. The enemy doesn’t sleep.
The devil isn’t passive. He is aggressively seeking spiritual openings—your weaknesses, wounds, regrets.
III. EXPOSING THE DEVIL’S STRATEGY
WORD STUDY
* “Adversary” — antidikos: a legal opponent, a courtroom prosecutor.
* “Roaring lion” — Not just hunting, but shouting accusations, hoping to paralyze you with fear and shame.
He brings up your past and argues his case:
* “You failed.”
* “You sinned.”
* “You deserve this mess.”
Satan prosecutes with cold facts. What makes him dangerous is—sometimes he’s technically right.
IV. SOMETIMES IT IS YOUR FAULT — BUT IT’S NOT THE END
Let’s be brutally honest:
*You ignored financial wisdom — now you’re in debt.
*You neglected your marriage — now you’re drifting apart.
*You abandoned spiritual disciplines — now your soul feels dry.
*You grieved and quenched the Holy Spirit — and now feel powerless.
*You gave yourself over to old habits, addictions, and darkness — and shame has followed.
*You broke the law — and now you're facing prison, shame, and consequences.
BUT—God’s mercy was made for messes like these... and even worse.
“Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.” — Psalm 103:4
Redemption is not just a spiritual idea. It’s a rescue operation—and it’s in motion for you.
V. GOD’S ANSWER: REDEMPTION, NOT REJECTION
“He hath delivered us from the power of darkness…” — Colossians 1:13
You’re not beyond grace.
* Repentance is the door.
* Restoration is the plan.
* The blood of Jesus is the legal answer to every accusation.
Satan says, “You’re finished.” Jesus says, “It is finished.”
VI. STRATEGIC RESPONSE: RESIST. RECLAIM. RISE.
STEP 1: Repent with Depth
Don’t just brush it off—own it. Let God deal with you fully. Grace flows where pride dies.
STEP 2: Resist with Truth
“Whom resist steadfast in the faith…” — 1 Peter 5:9
Speak Scripture aloud:
* “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” — Romans 8:1
* “Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4
STEP 3: Reconnect with Others
* Find strong believers. Confess. Pray together.
* Isolation is the lion’s playground. Community is your shield.
VII. DECLARATION WARFARE — SPEAK THIS OUT LOUD
Devil, I’ve heard your accusations. But I’ve repented, and God has forgiven me.
* I reject your lies.
* I rebuke your voice.
* I resist your presence.
You have no legal ground. I belong to Jesus. I stand in His righteousness. I rise from this pit in Jesus’ name.
VIII. PRAYER FOR FULL DELIVERANCE
Father in Heaven, I confess all sin. I do not hide. I do not blame. I repent deeply and trust completely.
You said You forgive and restore the broken. Silence the accuser in my mind. Let Your Spirit drown out the roar of the enemy. I receive mercy and rise by grace.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
IX. PRACTICAL TOOLS TO SILENCE THE ROAR
* Memorize 5 key verses on forgiveness and authority.
* Play worship music daily to shift the spiritual atmosphere.
* Write out a personal redemption testimony.
* Fast one day per week to draw near to God.
* Join a prayer group or find an accountability partner.
